TR@CES is built on a simple principle: your presence matters, your identity does not.
This policy describes what information TR@CES collects, how it is used, and what we will never do with it.
What We Collect
Location data — TR@CES uses your device's GPS to detect whether you are physically near a trace location. Location is processed on your device in real time and is never stored on our servers. We do not log, track, or retain your movement history. GPS is only ever active when the app is running.
Audio recordings — When you choose to leave an audio trace, a short audio recording is captured and uploaded to our servers along with the GPS coordinates of the recording location. Recordings are anonymous — no account, name, or device identifier is attached to them.
Photos — When you choose to leave a poster trace, your photo is captured and uploaded to our servers along with any ad copy you have included and GPS coordinates of the photo location. Photos are run through a filter and will generally render differently from the actual photo taken.
Text — When you choose to leave a graffiti trace, your text or drawing is captured and uploaded to our servers along with GPS coordinates of its location.
No account data — TR@CES does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or identify yourself in any way.
How We Use It
Location data is used solely to detect proximity to trace locations and trigger audio playback. It is never transmitted or stored.
Audio recordings, photos and text are stored on secure servers and made available to other TR@CES users who are physically present at the same location.
We do not analyze, transcribe, or process recordings beyond delivery to nearby listeners.
What We Never Do
We do not sell your data — to anyone, ever.
We do not serve advertisements.
We do not share recordings with third parties.
We do not track your location history or build a profile of your movements.
We do not use recordings to train AI models.
Data Retention
Audio traces are finite by design. Recordings expire after 30 days or after a set number of plays — whichever comes first. Expired traces are permanently deleted from our servers. This is not a policy exception; it is the nature of the experience.
Third-Party Services
TR@CES uses Supabase for secure audio storage. Supabase stores data on servers located in the United States. You can review Supabase's privacy practices at supabase.com/privacy.
Children
TR@CES is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of TR@CES constitutes acceptance of the current policy.
